Delfin II
Overview

The finest ship on the Amazon River - our base for exploration

Delfin II is a stately riverboat, recently built for the express purpose of exploring deep into the Peruvian Amazon at the headwaters of this mighty river - and doing so in modern tropical style.

A gracious riverboat with gorgeous suites

Delfin II comfortably accommodates 28 guests in 10 suites and four master suites. At 120 feet, she is perfectly sized to sail along the upper Amazon River. Her top deck offers an open-air observation lounge with a bar and comfy chairs ideal for relaxing at the day's end and watching the jungle scenery glide past. The top deck's air-conditioned presentation room at the stern with large picture windows on three sides is where photo talks and daily Recaps are held. With board games, computer stations, and comfortable seating with a contemporary flair, this room is also perfect for relaxing.

Her public spaces are luxurious and well-appointed, and offer sweeping views of the river and rain forest. Furnishings are made of sustainably harvested local rain forest wood, and the ship is decorated with handicrafts from the riberenos, native people of the wildlife preserve we explore. A gracious hotel staff makes an art of providing impeccable shipboard services.

Skiffs & kayaks for up close exploration

We search for the Amazon's rare birdlife and mammals, and explore the tributaries that feed these rivers aboard 10-person skiffs that feature individual seats with cushions and plenty of legroom. Our local naturalists, expert in spotting wildlife, join us in the skiffs. Kayaks offer a quiet way to explore remote, seldom-visited side streams.

Five-star dining

Dining aboard is an extraordinary event daily. Meals are artfully prepared, and all food served aboard, except for olive oil and balsamic vinegar, is sourced locally. The dining room accommodates all guests at once for a single seating.

Life Aboard

Fantastic dining, airy & luxurious spaces

You'll find that time aboard is relaxing and enlightening - the perfect peaceful respite between activities of hiking in search of rare wildlife, kayaking, and exploring the river.

Dining: taste the region

Dining aboard the Delfin II offers a window on the region. All food served aboard, with the exception of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, is sourced from sustainable providers. We can accommodate most special dietary requests; but due to the remoteness of our expedition, any requests need to be made 45 days in advance.

The gracious dining room, located aft on the upper deck, offers open seating for meals with unassigned tables. All guests are served in a single seating. Meal hours are posted aboard.

Public spaces perfectly suited to our style of travel

The ship's top deck is open to the river views - whether from the open air observation lounge or the large picture windows in the air-conditioned presentation room. It is a natural gathering place for our expedition community. Tropical blooms radiate spot color throughout the ship. Rattan sofas expand the possibilities for relaxing lazy-river style or curling up with a book while waiting for the glorious Amazon sunset. Silken hardwood floors stretch across the ship, and open spaces invite the river's cooling breeze to flow throughout.

  • Open-air lounge: Relax between rain forest adventures in the open air lounge outfitted with big, soft sofas and chairs - perfect for catching the breeze and watching river life glide past. Our bartender will always be on hand with options for continental and local cocktails, and coffee and tea are always available.

  • Presentation room: The air-conditioned lounge on the top deck lounge is the heart of our expedition community. It is where we'll hold evening Recaps and presentations from staff. Coffee, snacks, and juice are put out before breakfast for early risers.

  • Bar: The bar is open from lunch until after dinner. Liquors, soft drinks, and fresh, tropical juices are available. The bar is located on the top deck in the lounge.

  • Library: There is a small library located toward the front of the lounge.

  • Exercise room: Between outings in the rain forest, take advantage of the ship's gym to boost your cardio or stretching. The room's floor-to-ceiling window ensures you don't miss any of the spectacular forest views.

  • Spa: Indulge in wellness and spa treatments inspired by the verdant natural surroundings of the Amazon with a massage in the spa room. Enjoy it as a reward at the end of an active day, or choose to book time with our massage therapist in place of an outing. Spa treatments are not included in the cost of your expedition.

  • Dining room: Each meal is an even in this convivial room with 270-degree views of the river and an ever-changing tablescape of local handicrafts.

  • Bridge: The ship is operated with an open bridge policy, and you are welcome to visit the bridge to watch the calm art of navigation unfold.

Dining
Meals:

The air-conditioned dining room's large windows provide panoramic views. A different visual presentation greets you at every meal, which are served in a single seating with unassigned tables.

Meals on Delfin II are to be savored. Often special dishes will include sustainable products of the rain forest and sauces made with exotic regional fruits. The chef prepares dishes equal to any five-star restaurant.

Amenities
Public Areas:

Outdoor areas include the well-designed, comfortable Top Deck, where sofas and chairs invite you to linger with a good book or a pair of binoculars.

Enjoy drinks at the bar and unwind on cool, wooden-slat hammocks. The Top Deck is where the natural history staff will give their presentations with maps, large flat-screen plasma and digital technology. There is a small reference Library and the Bridge, where you are welcome to meet the captain and officers.

Expedition Equipment:

10-person skiffs-- with individual seat cushions and plenty of leg room. Rain ponchos are kept handy in the skiffs and distributed if needed. Rubber boots are provided before an excursion if deemed necessary.

Special Features:

Guests may swim directly from the skiffs using the convenient swim ladder, weather permitting.

Services

An attentive hotel staff, at your service

Our hotel staff will ensure life aboard is comfortable and effortless. If there is anything you need during your expedition, simply ask.

Connection

As the Delfin II operates in a remote corner of the world, there is no Internet service available. Cell phones generally will not work, though there are a few points along the river where you may be able to connect. A satellite phone is available for incoming and outgoing phone calls, billed by the minute.

Rain gear

As the Amazon's verdant jungle is fueled by 200 inches of rain each year, we often see storms roll through the river basin. Each of the 10-person skiffs is outfitted with ponchos and rain boots that are distributed as needed since light rain will not affect our plans to explore.

Laundry

Laundry services aboard at an additional charge make it easy to pack light.

EMT

An EMT is available on board 24 hours for emergencies. As we explore, we are never more than an hour away from a hospital in Iquitos by floatplane.
